Evacuations are now lifted after crews shut off water to a line that broke in Lemmon Valley early Thursday morning.

The Red Cross says about 25 homes are impacted, and water service to the area has been shut off. Volunteers are on-site, providing support at the evacuation center established by Washoe County, located at 8085 Silver Lake Road.

TMFR says, two homes have water in living spaces.

TMWA says the cause of the break remains under investigation and while most of the area's pipes are about 50 years old, this particular pipe is about 15 years old.

The 36-inch water line break prompted temporary evacuations near Matterhorn Drive that were later lifted around 12:45 p.m.

“The break has been isolated,” said Andy Gebhardt, TMWA’s director of distribution services. “Water flow to the broken main is shut down. We are assessing the damage, and once the water recedes we will begin repair as quickly as possible.”

All TMWA customers in the affected area have water service.

Crews with Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue say they responded to the break around 7 a.m. in the Chesapeake Drive neighborhood.

Fire crews are on scene assessing damage to see where they can provide help.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is helping with traffic control north of Lemmon Valley Drive between Oregon Blvd and Deodar Drive. Be aware that additional roads may be temporarily closed.
