Update on May 17:

The Boil Water Advisory that was put in place on Monday for the Hwy. 56/Camp Croft, south to the intersection of Hwy. 215 following a waterline break has been lifted. Customers no longer need to boil their water prior to drinking or use for cooking.

Original story:

Crews are currently working to repair a 10-inch waterline break in the Upstate, officials said Monday morning.

Jennifer Candler, with Spartanburg Water, said a boil-water advisory was issued for customers in the Highway 6 and Camp Croft area, south of the intersection of Highway 215.

Candler said customers may have experienced an interruption of service or a reduction in normal water pressures.

"Our team first was notified of a potential break at 3:30 a.m., but the break was not isolated until after 7 a.m.," Candler said. "It takes several hours many times to identify the exact location, as well as identify the total area of customers impacted. Hence, the delay in full communications."

She said the impacted water main will be repaired as quickly as possible.

Once repaired, the affected area will be thoroughly flushed and tested to ensure that no contamination has occurred, Candler said.

She said there has been no confirmed contamination of the water system in this area.

As a precaution until test results can be reviewed, customers are advised to boil water intended for drinking or cooking vigorously for at least one full minute, then cool the water as needed before use, Candler said.

She said any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking, officials said.

The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

"When the lab results come back – normally within 24-hours – we will issue a formal repeal of the boil water advisory," Candler said.
