Apogee Entertainment and the diabolical geniuses at New Blood Interactive and Nightdive Studios have finally set the release date for their upcoming remaster of the cult classic FPS Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition. You can experience the remake of the landmark 1994 shooter when it splatters gratuitous gibs on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch on July 31st, 2023. Accompanying the announcement is a new trailer that features a taste of the over-the-top action you can expect from Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition.

Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is more than a faithful recreation of the genre-defining shooter. Thanks to Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX engine, it is the original shooter in its true form, built with the original game's source code. Sporting 60+ frames-per-second gameplay, Ludicrous Edition also features the classic pixelated artwork upscaled to 4K resolution, increased field-of-view, cloud saves, achievements, and more.

"Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is a blast to the past in the best way possible. I would know, I was there!" says Scott Miller, founder of Apogee Entertainment and original project manager of Rise of the Triad. "It was a pivotal title that pushed the FPS genre forward, and thanks to the KEX engine from Nightdive, the original version lives on for another generation to experience a piece of FPS history."

Join the H.U.N.T., an elite squad of special forces and investigate mysterious activity off the California coast and unravel the mystery of the Triad cult. Select from five operatives, each with their own hit points, speed and accuracy statistics, and blast a path back to Los Angeles. Play through five separate campaigns including new episodes, expansion packs and never-before-seen Rise of the Triad content from previously-lost beta builds.

Splatter blood and gibs across the island with over-the-top weaponry like dual-wield pistols, heat-seeker missiles, and earth-shaking Firebombs. Take the H.U.N.T. online without the hassle of dial-up internet with multiplayer COMM-BAT supporting up to 11 players. Go one-versus-ten in Hunter mode, and encounter the first ever capture-the-flag mode in FPS history in "Capture the Triad" mode.

Recreate any Rise of the Triad experience with multiple iterations of the classic original soundscape, or rock out to the heavy metal 2013 reboot soundtrack. Inject the perfect dose of fast-paced FPS madness into the mix with an all-new level editor, and get the upper hand on enemies with the inclusion of ROTT's original cheat codes!

If you enjoyed playing Motion Twin and Evil Empire's Dead Cells, you’re not the only one. In fact, according to the developers, more than 10 million people have taken the plunge into the roguelike since its launch. And things aren't slowing down yet.

Buoyed by a whopping 34 free updates and four paid DLCs since its initial Early Access launch on Steam back in 2017, Dead Cells has sold more than 10 million copies across consoles and PC. That number was certainly helped by the most recent DLC in D ead Cells: Return to Castlevania (which we loved).

Evil Empire and Motion Twin aren't about to let things rest for the award-winning roguelike just yet, as they also announced that they’re exploring further future updates for the title all the way through 2025. "With years of successful updates and expansions behind it after taking over live ops of Dead Cells in 2019, the studio is tinkering with its time-tested methodology, experimenting with ideas for future updates and new ways for fans to enjoy one of their favorite roguelikes."

Dead Cells is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. It's also available on mobile devices via the App Store and Google Play. The PlayStation 5 will be receiving a port of its own on August 11.
