Multiple road closures and detours will begin Oct. 28 as part of Emporia's 24th Avenue and Prairie Street Waterline Improvements Project, affecting traffic throughout several neighborhoods.
The intersection of Prairie Street and 15th Avenue will be completely closed in all directions for approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Multiple sections of both 15th Avenue and Prairie Street will also face closures with established detour routes:
The extensive project includes installation of approximately 12,600 linear feet of new water mains ranging from 6 to 24 inches in diameter, along with 33 new service lines. Construction is expected to continue through summer or fall 2025.
City officials encourage drivers to use caution in construction zones, follow posted traffic control signs, and seek alternate routes when possible. Residents can stay informed about traffic and utility changes by downloading the MyAlerts app.
Questions about the project can be directed to the City of Emporia Engineering Department at 620-343-4260 or [email protected] during regular business hours.
