Marathon Petroleum Reports Compressor Trip at Oil Refinery in Texas
By Dan Molinski
Marathon Petroleum said Friday a tripped compressor disrupted some operations and caused excessive gas emissions at its Galveston Bay refining complex in Texas.
"Coker wet gas compressor trip resulted in flaring," the refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. "The compressor was restarted and unit resumed normal operations."
It said the above-normal emissions of sulfur dioxide and other gases happened Thursday night, lasting less than 2 hours.
Marathon's 593,000-barrel-a-day Galveston Bay refining complex is located about 40 miles southeast of Houston.
