Another traffic adjustment this week for 24th and Prairie waterline replacement effort | KVOE

Last week, the city of Emporia announced a series of short-term traffic adjustments as part of ongoing work on the 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project. There has been an adjustment to an adjustment.
Initially, the city said 15th would be closed to thru traffic from Thompson Street east to Woodland. Instead of Thompson, the closure zone begins at Luther Street — again for thru traffic only.
The other adjustments remain the same:
*The 15th and Prairie intersection will be closed for up to three weeks.*Prairie Street will be closed to thru traffic south of Hillcrest Road and 24th Avenue. There will be a detour east on 24th. Prairie will also be closed to thru traffic at 18th, with a detour to the west on 18th. Further south, Prairie will be closed to thru traffic north of 12th and there will be detours either west or east on 12th.
This is part of a process bringing nearly 13,000 linear feet — or over two miles — of new water mains ranging from six to 24 inches in diameter, along with over 30 new service lines and other connections nearby. Work is tentatively set to continue through at least summer 2025.
